The Airedale Rescue Quilting Bee is a group of Airedale lovers who make quilts, raffle them off, and donate the money to National Airedale Rescue. For more than 10 years they have been making quilts.
These ladies correspond via the internet to choose a theme; find people to draw the patterns; choose fabric and colors; and check in with each other to see how the progress goes. Paper patterns, background fabric, and stabilizer are sent via USPS to begin the process. When the blocks are finished, they are sent to someone who sews them together. Then the quilt top goes on to the person who layers and quilts it and then on to the person who binds it. Before it reaches its final destination photographs are taken. Each October a new quilt goes off to Montgomery, PA, where terrier lovers admire it and buy tickets in hopes of taking it home.
The quilts sometimes earn up to $14,000.00. When we think that each Airedale who comes into rescue may need $500.00 or more of vet care, it's possible that each quilt can help 28 Airedales in need. Another quilt will be "published" in the summer and the winner will be chosen in October. When I know more about this year's quilt raffle, I'll post it here.
